Weather station reviews

My son is interested in the weather and in particular, the wind, so we have a weather station installed on our roof.

The following brief reviews are a result of our research to find a weather station with a quick measuring interval and good storage of minimum and maximum measurements over various time periods.

Nylex Digital Weatherstation PLUS (719035)

This is a relatively inexpensive weather station that has less features than some.

It has the usual indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity, plus wind speed.

It lacks wind direction.

The wind speed features are better than many weather stations. The speed is updated more often than some and you can view average wind speed or maximum gust. You can also cycle through a history of the maximum wind speed for the hour, day, month and year.

Holman Aspect Wireless Data Centre Weather Station (WS5029)

This weather station has a lot of measurements but has been disappointing for us.

It has indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity, a rainfall gauge and both wind speed and wind direction.

However, for the wind measurements, these readings are not updated very regularly and there is no history so you can't see what the maximum wind speed has been for any period of time.

I haven't used one of these myself, but from a little research these units display readings every 48 seconds, which is slower than we want.

They do have indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity and wind speed and direction.

According to the advertisements, they have a history of readings for the last 20 hours.

These weather stations are sold under various brands and there are a few different control panel styles. They are generally available inexpensively on eBay and Aliexpress.

The one that we have can transmit weather data via the Internet to the Weather Underground and Weather Cloud websites. This generally works well except you cannot send to any other websites and it does not send every reading so sometimes you miss out on recording some maximums readings. I don't know the exact interval, but it appears to send data every minute.

The control panel does store maximums and you can choose to keep a maximum for all time, or a maximum for the day.

The measuring interval is 12 seconds.

If you have one of these weather stations and can add any information please contact me or leave a comment.
